(Excuse me if there is one already, close this and move the other thread to here for me)

I’m not the super fan…. Just relaying information from my middle daughter…. Who is.

She’s going to Glasgow soon to see Norways 2019 entrant Keiino with a VIP meet and greet….. and would have gone this year to Switzerland if we weren’t all going out to Seoul in October.

If you can put the politics and LGBTQ stuff aside, Eurovision has always been just a bit of fun. A yearly spectacle to be entertained by.

There are of course cultural differences that become apparent when watching some of these artists…. All adds to the entertainment when you think how other countries view what is a “good” song.

We don’t know yet every countries entrant…. The UK only officially announced theirs today, some are still to be decided…. But I’ll go over a few this weekend that I maybe haven’t covered yet on other threads.

She will do that's as close as we've got then. Lol
Tell her keep the relays coming. We have a thread relying on her information lol

(To be fair we always watch it in our house will try get @Lou on too)

Sweden has chosen.

After several weeks of televised public voting from about 30 entrants… Sweden held its final last night to choose who they will send to the actual competition.
Did the choose Eurovision stalwart Mans Zermelow with 1 win, 2 presenting gigs and numerous halftime stage appearances? No.

Did they send the catchiest cowboy themed pop song since 5,6,7,8 by Steps? No.

Slow ballads….. skeleton face make up heavy metal? No and No.

What they are sending is a group called KAJ, and their song “Bara Bada Bustu” Which, by looking at their staging, is about hard working lumberjacks who like nothing better to do in their time off than to spend it in a sauna.
Listen to this right through, and I guarantee you’ll still be singing it later on.

This would have been my choice all day I think.

Never like the heavy metal skull face stuff but some have done fairly well in the past so somebody must like them.

The “big 5” being the top financial contributors, and the countries that automatically get through to the Eurovision final are The Uk, France, Germany, Spain and Italy… and this is the first time in over 30 years that each of these countries have performed in their own language in the same year.

The UK, as posted on another thread is Remember Monday, with the song “What The Hell Just Happened” which I may talk about again.

Spain. Melody, “Esa Diva” Starts off with flamenco guitar, girl singer drops from trapeze swing and has her dress pulled off by male dancers. Nothing unusual so far for Spain.

Italy. 2021 winners with rock band Maneskin. This years nation selection winner pulled out, so they had to go with second place Lucio Corsi who looks like a cross between David Bowie and Janice from Electric Mayhem (muppets)
The song is ok.

Germany. Typical German techno/ classical/ euro pop sound by siblings Abor and Tynna. Could do quite well, but relies on vocal effects which might not be duplicated on stage.

France. The French entry is by a famous singer in France called Louane, and the song is being premiered this weekend at the Stad de France during the Scotland/ France 6 nations. We’ve not heard the song itself yet.

I've seen this Remember Monday a couple of times on BBC stuff now, and it's never going to be a serious contender. So I'll be voting for somebody else. ooOOOOoo but who?!?!

I usually look out for the Aussies song see what that's like but it's some tiktok star this year. So being over 14 years old I've never heard of him.

Not much for that.

I told you not to go down that particular rabbit hole!

Anyhoo…. The Oracle that is my middle daughter gave me this little nugget of information tonight.
The San Marino entry is a dj called Gabre Ponte with the song “Tutti L’Italia”

View: https://youtu.be/-GK2VVpSqUI

Which is one of a few entrants sung in Italian which aren’t Italy.

Eurovision are quite good at bringing back faded or just older stars to have another crack at fame. In recent years, The Rasmus, rock band from 20 odd years ago….Darude, the dj behind “sandstorm” which is now being used in the Tesco adverts. Even the UK entered Engelbert Humperdinck not that long ago.

San Marino themselves a few years ago featured US rapper Flo Rida on the song. This time, Ponte, in his younger days, was a member of Eiffel 65….
(That Blue Da Ba De song)

8 weeks to go, every country has chosen their entries.... so now i can go through the list for you alphabetically, and see what all the fuss is about.......I'll do 4 or 5 songs per post.

So first up, we have:

ALBANIA

"Zjerm" by Shkodra Elektronike

This was the first announced entry for Eurovision 2025, picked by national selection way back in December last year. Has quite an ethnic sound and look to it. Will be part of the first semi final on Tuesday 13th May, sung in their native language.... It may do quite well. 6/10

View: https://youtu.be/RNT1SmmxuIk?si=o3syEsLRqYEX9b9D

ARMENIA

"Survivor" by Parg

Sung in English with the poorly written lyrics "I'm a survivor, Stay aliver". With hints of Imagine Dragon's "Believer" ....Will perform on the Thursday at the second semi final. A lowly 1/10 score from our household.

View: https://youtu.be/RfH5o3XtI2c?si=mV1LMU6Hy4L9MW-R

AUSTRALIA

"Milkshake Man" by Go-Jo

Could be a very popular, but will be interesting to see what the staging is like compared with the music video. We're giving this a 7/10. Catchy song, but will bring up the "Australia isnt in Europe" argument from some. Second semi final

Video was linked earlier in the thread. (#7)

AUSTRIA

"Wasted Love" by JJ

Very similar to last years winner, Nemo with "The Code", in as much as its operatic in places. Starts off very slow, quite boring.... but changes dramatically at 2:15. Could be tricky to hit these high notes live on stage. Second semi final again. Not my cup of tea, but my daughter, The Oracle quite likes it. Averaged score of 6/10 ish

View: https://youtu.be/-ieSTNpxvio?si=uThBlCxNVO226JwH

AZERBAIJAN

"Run With U" by Mamagama

Not to be confused with Wagamama.
Song and video both appear to be from 10 years ago. Will be on first semi final, but we dont think it will go any further. 4/10 just for sounding like DNCE Cake By The Ocean

View: https://youtu.be/upbiPJ9uA70?si=qUjwWHNBvK0jrUcJ

Part 2 of my full list of 2025 entries.
Quite a few low scores today from us, but they may still do very well in the jury scoring

BELGIUM

“Strobe lights” by Red Sebastian

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Very red, very strobelighty…. Another one trying to hit the highest note possible. Might do ok in the first semi. Gets 6/10 from us

View: https://youtu.be/ScupiVTosHU

CROATIA

“Poison Cake” by Mario Bosnjak

Strange song that jumps from dark rock to almost nursery rhyme singing… A bit like Bambi Thug from last year. Nothing special. 2/10

View: https://youtu.be/xOodVfY8hCs

CYPRUS

“Shh” by Theo Evan

Slow start into techno dance. Another male dressed only in black. First semi final… Will not get through. 3/10

View: https://youtu.be/rbfQqWyqgJw

CZECHIA

“Kiss Kiss Goodbye” by Adonxs

Another slow boring song. 2nd semi final, May get through, but only just. 3/10 again.

View: https://youtu.be/Hm8CIICKAJU

Part 3...

Today we continue the alphabetical rundown of this years entries.... D for.....

DENMARK

"Hallucination" by Sissal

Good song with energy. Will do very well being scandinavian. 2nd semi final. A strong 8/10 from here.

View: https://youtu.be/gdCAgiSIOUc?si=TuXf1oSC_Zc9Nhe_

ESTONIA

"Espresso Macchiato" by Tommy Cash

One of this years' joke entries... Can't see it doing well at all, but is very viral and very annoying. 1st semi final.... so will possibly get stuck in your head depending who is performing before and after them. 5/10 for comedy

View: https://youtu.be/5MS_Fczs_98?si=3m7mZlU3IxSPgl-G

FINLAND

"Ich Komme" by Erika Vikman

Another energetic song which will no doubt do very well. 2nd semi final. The staging could push it high in the scores come the final.

View: https://youtu.be/Kg3QoTpnqyw?si=Op7LfXC7Mdi4mlc9

FRANCE

"Maman" by Louane

This is one of the Big 5, so automatically qualify for the Saturday final. This official video was filmed during the Scotland/ France Six Nation rygby match at half time, but not broadcast on UK TV. France always seem to do well..... we give a 7/10 but will probably come much higher than we expect on the final.

View: https://youtu.be/Pj2DTSLcNnI?si=oda3K_GyQS5sxCNA

Part 4

All the G’s starting with

GEORGIA

“Freedom” by Mariam Shengelia

Boring ballad. Perfect opportunity to refill your glasses during the 2nd semifinal. A 2/10 from us

View: https://youtu.be/c3wu0dUNd4c

GERMANY

“Baller” by Abor and Tynna

From a 2/10 to a 10/10. One of the big 5, so gets straight through to Saturday. Fully in German, still singing the “balalalalala” bit

View: https://youtu.be/zJplC4-9Scs

GREECE

“Asteromata” by Klavdia

Back to a boring one… slightly better than Georgia. 3/10
Another glass fill up opportunity on the thursday

View: https://youtu.be/UxzeTezgey4

Part 5

ICELAND

"Roa" By Vaeb.... or more accurately, "RÓA" by VÆB
Iceland always brings the bop..... whether its Dadi Freyr, Pollaponk, Hitari or even the fictional Fire Saga... "Play Ja Ja Ding Dong!"
This year, they've got the cliche Eurovision siblings in the shape of two brothers.
Very catchy tune, might do quite well and hopefully qualify from the first semi final. We are giving it a good 7/10
Note the silvery outfits

View: https://youtu.be/s9P83Nl6D1M?si=A3MNNCC9tYE5QacV

IRELAND
"Laika Party" by Emmy
A Norwegian, entering for Ireland, singing about a Russian dog...
A definate qualifier from the second semi final.... and a huge difference from last years entry. Back to the pop music... and another one in silver clothes.
8/10 from us

View: https://youtu.be/cZnusVb7yjs?si=CvEZahArWD_NJAHR

ISRAEL
"A New Day Will Rise" by Yuval Raphael
Parking the politices for a minute, this song is a bit slow and shouty for a eurovision entry. Might struggle to get through the second semi final, being up against some strong and more memorable songs.
3/10

View: https://youtu.be/Q3BELu4z6-U?si=s06nqwAQ2UVeEV66

ITALY
"Volevo Essere Un Duro" by Lucio Corsi
Not sure if this guy is trying to be a little bit Bowie, a little bit Elton...... This actually came second in the Italy National Finals, but whoever won decided he didnt want to enter after all.
One of the Big 5, so automatically in the final
Is quite good, and might do well. 6/10

View: https://youtu.be/mfAf9-5Oevw?si=UoppYtJW1SwLcgYk

Part 6

LATVIA
"Bur Man Lavia" by Tautumeitas
A tad too ethereal for Eurovision, but could do well being so different. A bit like Clannad from years ago... nice harmonies.
Liked in this house. 8/10

View: https://youtu.be/b1_t79mQkm4?si=9ONOoGm1hItCu0yF

LITHUANIA
"Tavo Akys" by Katarsis
This years token indie style rock song. A bit slow and boring. Yawn from us 2/10

View: https://youtu.be/R2f2aZ6Fy58?si=TpTJKO-xYxUafBIS

LUXEMBOURG
"La Poupee Mont Le Son" by Laura Thorn
From about 10% eurovision to 99.9%. After a short break from the compition, Luxembourg return with a very strong pop song that could win. The video features a clip and is influenced by their first ever entry in 1965p'
8/10

View: https://youtu.be/LVHu_KwHiKY?si=teUQkWuAGXe3XuvW

MALTA
"Serving" by Miriana Conte
After a bit of backlash from the UK broadcasting rules, this song has had to be rewritten to remove a word which sounded a little rude. Making full use of the contraversy in the video.... it will no doubt do well with the voting across Europe. .... although expect the BBC to mute the sound during the song when the rude word will be reinserted by the audience.
A good song that didnt need to be so hyped up. 8/10

View: https://youtu.be/sLVSwfRRvMA?si=-V4jZ6rfQBs5PTwb

MONTENEGRO
"Dobrodosli" by Nina Zizac
Back to boring power ballad... Average. 4/10

View: https://youtu.be/ydMkpaB0CWk?si=BXEzgAUpHaGOsjKT

Part 7

THE NETHERLANDS
"C'est La Vie" by Claude

Back to basics for The Netherlands, after last years techno based joke song Europapa.
Will do well.... 6/10

View: https://youtu.be/hEHwr5k9pd0?si=9qV8fBKlvM7Jj33N

NORWAY
"Lighter" by Kyle Alessandro

Middle - good entry from Norway. Changed the title of the song from Fighter to Lighter....
6/10

View: https://youtu.be/h7jkEmoBvU0?si=ZetvWC6FVfbuxhm2

POLAND
"Gaja" by Justyna Steczkowska

Singer surrounded by 4 dancers. Formulaic standard eurovision of recent years. Could have done better. The "dancing" is so bad.... 5/10

View: https://youtu.be/YXHHDjiclxA?si=XFHWoaslbEw-o3wV

PORTUGAL
"Deslocada" by Napa

Average pop ballad band. Slow song. 6/10

View: https://youtu.be/-s1Cc2uEj3U?si=iovDUoQMUp3W4kCJ

Part 8

SAN MARINO
"Tutti L'Italie" by Gabry Ponte

Quite good dancy little tune from established DJ and remixer Gabry.... who was one part of Eiffel 65/ Blue da ba de
7/10.

View: https://youtu.be/Le3WpaLYRvE?si=qWxqAYAS075fsmsa

SERBIA
"Mila" by Princ

Not Purple Rain Prince... different spelling. Not special rock ballad. Trying too hard. 3/10

View: https://youtu.be/FsCBHvjQznw?si=nW_54MWYqHUQyTqI

SLOVENIA
"How Much TimeDo We Have Left" by Klemen

Nice enough song, but singer has had some backlash by a viral video where he dressed up as past winners of eurovision... included blackface
5/10

View: https://youtu.be/qTS2L0VcaVI?si=TMTPgug5md8r2xkw

SWEDEN
"Bara Bada Bustu" by KAJ

Sweden going for comedy this year, and still one of the favourites to win. The song is all about saunas.... which you can see from the staging.
A favourite in this house too 9/10

View: https://youtu.be/WK3HOMhAeQY?si=K5_NGei3BWhS70js

Me: “you could have told me I missed out Spain.

Euro mad Robyn: “they’re just a bunch of sparkies, they’ll never notice”

9th and final part coming later.

Part 9

SPAIN
"Esa Diva" by Melody

Spain sticks to their tried and tested uptempo dance tune, sung by a female with a few dancers around her.... Midpoint outfit change (thats so 1981 and Bucks Fizz). One of The Big 5, so automatically through to Saturdays final.
We like a dancey eurovision tune 7/10

View: https://youtu.be/H46FB-rLh04?si=_4vz_ka6XkRt75fx

SWITZERLAND
"Voyage" by Zoe Me

Last years winner, so host country and straight through to the final alongside the Big 5. A big change from last years pop/opera from Nemo on his tipping playground roundabout.... This one's a little too slow compared to it. 5/10

View: https://youtu.be/dGX54zRExR8?si=csw99FJ-ivXzkYY7

UKRAINE
"Bird Of Prey" by Ziferblat

Hints of "Aquarius" and very 70's influenced. Might do well, but politics may get into the votes here. 7/10

View: https://youtu.be/OJ1x2aiL7ks?si=BdKcRxB3UqG3IWgR

UNITED KINGDOM
"What The Hell Just Happened?" by Remember Monday

We have to get behind the home nation, dont we?... Well, we should... So cue Radio2 and BBC1 presenters hyping this up to 10, only for them to come 2nd last and no one mention them for the next 6 years (I mean, does anyone else remember Joe and Jake?) 7/10

View: https://youtu.be/-hu6R3ZnOdY?si=2ZvF3xoAAZKBxEoJ

Well thats all the entries for this year.... Just in time for it all to start next Tuesday!
Some good, some bad... some dreadful. As usual. That's what makes it a global event spectacle.

Rumours are that all non-competing country flags are banned.... so there will be Israel, but not Palastine flags.... and somehow no Pride flags either. Good luck with that.

Predictions to follow.... who gets through, who the top 3 will be and what could happen off stage.

1 day to go, so here is our predictions and full lists of tuesday and thursdays semi finals.

There are 37 countries performing. The Big 5 of Spain, Italy, Germany, France and UK are straight through to Saturdays final... as is the host country Switzerland. From that, 31 countries have to qualify in either the first or second semi final.... 10 from each... giving 26 to compete in Saturdays Final.... Even Britains Got Talent is being shown on Sunday instead of saturday night to avoid conflict.

The countries in bold are our predictions of who gets through, but not a prediction of placements.

Tuesday running list.

1 Iceland
2. Poland

3. Slovenia
4. Estonia
5. Ukraine
6. Sweden

7. Portugal
8. Norway
9. Belgium

10. Azerbaijan
11. San Marino
12. Albania
13. Netherlands

14. Croatia
15. Cyprus

Thursday running list

1. Australia
2. Montenegro
3. Ireland
4. Latvia

5. Armenia
6. Austria
7. Greece

8. Lithuania
9. Malta
10. Georgia
11. Denmark
12. Czechia
13. Luxembourg
14. Israel

15. Serbia
16. Finland

There is a high likelyhood of anti- Israel protesters... so not surprised if theres a stage invasion during their song.

Tuesdays results…. And the acts that were eliminated last night

Slovenia
Belgium
Azerbaijan
Croatia
Cyprus

So we predicted 9/10 correct… really thought Belgium would do it over Portugal.

There was a stage invasion during Estonia’s performance…. But it was a fake.
Girl jumps up and gets blocked by Tommy Cash’s security guard dancers…. Runs over to him during an instrumental break… gives him a hug, and starts jelly leg dancing next to him.

Quite funny

Some of the presenters material was pretty dire… Just a badly written filler where other countries could show a commercial break… don’t get that with the BBC.

Recent news reports could hamper Israel’s performance on Thursday, and wouldn’t be surprised if they pull out at the last minute.

Close again.

We predicted 8/10 of the qualified acts…. But unfortunately those 2 we got wrong was Australia and Ireland…. Two of our faves.

Panic set in last night as our sky Q box took a funny turn, and we missed the last two songs, and a chunk of the results
Spent tonight setting up iPlayer on the telly to serve as a backup. Just in case.

Remember Monday - Forgotten by tuesday..... Sounds about right.

UK came 19th place.... which is 19/26 in the final... but taking the 13 that had already been put out in the semis.... its about half way. Taking absolutely zero from the other countries televoting.... Seems to happen every year.

None of the "bookies favourites" came close. None of the catchy up-tempo songs.... and Austrias winner sounded too much like last years winner from Nemo's pop/opera sound.

Israel was in top spot for a while, losing out to Austria at the last moment..... Was this a political decision... voting rigged to "prove" Israel has a place at Eurovision... or was it indeed the second best song there.... (no... no it wasnt)

There's always next year, UK..... Can we get Kylie to do it next time round?

Highlight of the night was past contestants Kaarija and Baby Lasagna performing a mashup of their respective songs from '23 and '24 and their new collaboration

View: https://youtu.be/DGsL8hA-1rE?si=XvZUaWcRaZzy7E84

Still got Eurovision fever, we watched the Fire Saga film again on Netflix at the weekend.
Now 5 years old…. It came out the year the actual contest was cancelled because of Covid.

The jokes still stand well, and the songs in it are as Eurovision as you can get.

We did notice that the Maltese entry this year has very similar visuals to the fictional Greece entry on the film.

Apologies, I had to photograph the screen with my phone. Couldn’t screen grab directly.
