Morning,

Is it still permissible to have fixed wiring in a factory inspected by an external company every 5 years?

I have the company who we used last time hassling me saying its due, but are very vague on saying what 'due' means.

you can use anybody you like (even me) as long as they are competent and can give you an honest report.

Many factors affect how often the installation shoukd be inspected and tested.
I think the guideline is 5 years but this is only a guide, not a fixed rule.
This can be set at a lot less time if the inspector feels that the installation is deteriorating and needs more frequent testing.
This could be a longer period if a robust system of testing and maintainence is in place.
The time period can also be set by your insurance company.

Ask them for clarification on what due means, it may be their own interpretation of the recommended inspection intervals. Also check with the insurers of the factory to see what their requirements are if any for the inspection of the site.

EDIT: Too slow. What DS said ^

The guidance only relates to the initial periodic verification. It offers no suggestion for subsequent periods as these need to be determined by the inspector each time.

The recommendation should be on the last report that you have . As has been said there will be reasons for a shorter or longer period depending on the condition and use of the installation.
Is there something niggling you about the previous report?
