Got a call from a customer saying they needed a socket moving as they are removing a wall ....... well actually its 2 sockets - the one to the left of the picture and the one you can see...

Both pieces of conduit have 2 x 2.5mm in them!

I didn't expect to find this in a 70's house ..... the wall to the right is the outside wall and behind the sockets is where the original kitchen was ......

Wonder where the conduit goes next?

I ran out of time yesterday to do any more investigation......

Have fun Murdoch

Loos like they may even be using the conduit as the CPC. Although I can't quite make it out in the photo.

Edit: Just seen the unsleeved CPC twisted together. Although that may not mean that it isn't being used as a CPC somewhere else in the house.

Seriously though, I suppose all you can do is fathom out how it's wired and then alter it to suit the job. As you say it strange to see conduit in a house, love those old Wandsworth sockets!

Are they on different circuits and I assume that the one on left out of shot has one conduit to it from the right. All you can do is follow them back and see if you can fit metal adaptable boxes.

rather bizarrely they are both on the same circuit ... so why they didn't run from them on the same conduit is anyone's guess!
Probably because they didn't know how to tube and wire a RFC , with only one tube back at the point of supply would be my guess.

No idea that's why I posted follow back and see, they hopefully go in ceiling void.
Probably not Ant, personally in my experience it's going to be a case of look and ye shall find, or transferring from flush to surface wiring systems, the first thing would be to find out how the RFC is wired, the right way or the wrong way makes a world of difference in any alterations.

Tricky one that , what sort of test do you put on it once you’ve done the work , sure if you use containment for cpc you are supposed to use high current meter that injects 20/30a to check for good connections (Claire meter) if memory is correct , did a job for Ng Bailey for post office in early 90’s and we used containment as cpc

Not sure if it was a post office spec on testing , but we defo had to use something similar to above

UPDATE:

Been back today ............ so I made the opening bigger into the wall:

Ari 2.jpg

And found that all the conduit was doing, was protecting the ring after it comes out of the cavity ....................

And one cable did link the 2 boxes together!

So all's good with the customer , who had agreed T&M for the work............. so I'll be sending an estimate later.

Thanks for the comments "team"
