For the refurbishment of the lighting numerous onsite trials are suggested. Subject to on-site trials, it is considered that the Urbis / Aquila VarioLED concept system may be most appropriate for the decorative illumination of the balustrade. The variable distributions and large variety of colour temperatures should ensure an excellent result can be achieved. The remote driver / transformer combination is a significant benefit over other products in a similar vein – allowing for ease of maintenance at a key point of failure.
It is considered that the use of LEDs, without a bespoke maintenance solution (such as scissor lift or spring reel), will sufficiently limit the need for river-side balustrade maintenance. The use of hazardous maintenance practices, such as the use of harnesses, will therefore be reduced to a minimum. The major need to access the balustrade lighting (to change traditional lamps) will be removed with the use of a solid state light source. The only maintenance activities that will be required to be performed to balustrade lighting are cleaning and dealing with random failures. It is envisaged that cleaning may be achieved from the footway, leaving only failures to deal with by way of, for example, harnessed operatives. The selection of a good quality product from a reputable manufacturer will go a long way to ensuring this activity is kept to a minimum.
The total estimated initial cost of the refurbishment of the lighting installation is approximately £0.52m

Good views from the top. I was up there last time the bridge was refurbished, must be 15/20 years ago now?

Congratulations on being asked to tender for this, that in itself is an achievement in my opinion.

This sounds to me like the kid of job where you can build a good working relationship with the customer and secure some goodwill and future work.
