Discuss Has the 'Respected Member' tag had its day? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Not been around much then, heard it quite a bit while out and about, get it quite often at the wholesalers

And I actually heard it from a customer a couple of months ago

I'm not allowed out of my padded cell..

I quite like the labels...when I see respected member i usually think I'll get some sound advice...
How things change, eh? :)

If people come on here asking for advice and they clearly won't accept it, then of course they shouldn't be given step-by-step instructions, nor should they if they clearly have no suitable knowledge/skills...but I didn't think it was broken, so why try to fix it?
It's an internet forum, just words on a screen...if folks get offended, well that's life-it's almost impossible to have freedom of speech anywhere else these days. Of course, we cannot condone outright attacks, racism and so on, but I really can't see why we are even having this debate, which purports to be a debate or vote that nobody asked for.

Anyway, after reading the new Ts and Cs it is clear that I had better not comment on the grammar etc so I will just go and get on with rewiring my kitchen lighting in cat5e as recommended by a fellow forumite...got to keep up with the times, eh?

and I thought that I have read it... Don't remember seeing anything about grammar.. I'll see if I can find it and read it again...

Where do I find these T&C again?

I'll have to disagree here Dave, I have never heard the term 5 week wonder from any other electrician outside of this forum.

Some of the other terms are more common, 'boil in the bag sparky' is one I've heard a lot.

'career change cowboy' sung to the tune of rhinestone cowboy did have me laughing.

Surely every member is respected.

It sounds ever so cliquey.

I think in the current times when everybody should be totally equal, denoting who's 'respected' it a bit cheeky.

It used to be called "Elite Member" - Christ, imagine if we had that these days?!?!?!
On TilersForums.com it's now 'Trusted Advisor' but even then the advice changes and it's marking old now inaccurate posts as if the post should be trusted. And it can cause a bit of a shitstorm every now and again because some poor sod has tiled their bathroom the old way and their tiles are falling off.

I've put a poll up to get a feel for it. But it's not to say if either outcome is clear - that we will go for it.

It's up for discussion.

Please be professional with your replies. That said we wont be warning anybody for speaking out. This is my own thread and my chin can take it. :)
Respect is earned is it not? I would say that this is probably coming from who has experience to help others rather than know it alls who disrespect genuine sparks who want to ask advice.

The short form course references remind me of the old Frost report sketch. Do you think that electrical trainee look down on Electrical Trainee who in turn look down on electrical trainee :grinning:

If we are going over to just numbers can I be have a 69

It would probably be more helpful if we all voted on any '****' replies and had those unhelpful idiots tagged. !

All depends on what people class as rubbish replies mate.
Some people who posts questions expect that they should be told how to do what they need. Sometimes it's not safe to tell them the info, for their own safety. This is then classed as 'a rubbish reply' and they get annoyed.
If everyone can vote on a post then this may not stop rubbish replies as they may get more positive votes than negative.

The 'Respected' banner was given to the members that the admin/mods thought were worthy of it.

Try any other electrician's discussion platform on the internet ....
Yes, I've heard it on other forums but not from the sparkies at the wholesalers or on other jobs. It seems to be an internet thing.
