Hi Guys,

Bought a White Half Lantern HI LO Dawn To Dusk light with Motion Detector from Homebase and installed it on Sunday, but the light does not come on when it gets dark like it should? It does sometimes come on when there is motion but not always?

I got some of the 1mm cable and wired the Live, Neutral and Earth into the Lamp, I did the same at the other end where I connected Live, Neutral and Earth to a plug covering the Earth with some Yellow/Green sleeving. Should the wiring be fine and its that the Light Dimmer that is faulty?

Any comments as to the installation of a dawn to dusk light would be most appreciated.

Regards,

Andy:confused:

The only thing i can think of is that the sensor may not be seeing enough "dark" to operate properly.

Either test it by covering the sensor (which might be tricky), or it could just be a case of a faulty unit.

Returned the unit to Homebase and swapped like for like. The new version does not have any fiddly switches to twist and should run automatically. Installed it and the motion detector works fine but still cannot get any joy with the Dawn to Dusk part? Could it be that the Dimmer's on these units are very hit and miss?

Thanks for the replies.

Regards,

Andy

Installed a couple of security lights last week with PIR and dawn to dusk PEC (Photoelectric Cell). The dawn to dusk facility stops the lamp illuminating during daylight hours when motion is detected by the pir. Are you sure this isn't the same way the light you have should operate?

If you want a light to automatically operate and stay on during the hours of darkness then you only need a light fitting with a PEC.

The PIR angle may need adjusting for the motion sensor to cover the area you require to operate correctly. Presuming the PIR is adjustable and not fixed in the light fitting?

Hope this helps you a little.
