Hi Chaps

Would be interested to see how others deal with this scenario....

I'm pretty good and happy dealing with customers of from all walks of life (bedsit tenant up to multimillionaire) and on all platforms (face to face, phone, email etc.)

The only one which stumps me very rarely from time to time (today being one of the occasions) is when I go to look at job and right from the start customer is a complete c*ck!!

Basically don't want the job regardless, so never really know how to deal with emailing (or letter in post) them in the politest way without any come back. Obviously being tactful with a reputation to uphold.

Some times get away with my standard reply for not wanting the job :

"Further to my site visit earlier today and after further consideration I regret I am unable to take on this job for you.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to quote......"

But 9 time out of 10 they come back asking why? Would love to put to put real reason. Also not keen wasting time, putting in sky high estimate hoping I don't get job.

Look forward to your replies

Cheers Sy

After checking my works diary, I find that I am unable to undertake the works you require, in the time frame you mentioned, due to other commitments.
I hope you find someone who is able to offer their services, thank you for the opportunity to quote for the work.

Thanks Pete have incorporated that into my email.... should do the trick.

Cheers Sy :-)

Dear Sir,

I find myself unable to commit to the work as per our on site discussion due to my strict company policy of not working for knobs, idiots, imbaciles or ----ers.

Many thanks for the opportunity to quote but please don't contact me ever again in this or any other regard.

I can only wish you every success in finding an electrician who is more tolerant to you shortcomings as a person.

Ever yours,
Marvo.

What are you going to do if they come back saying they are willing to change the time frame?????

Marvo's suggestion is pretty much spot on...

Funnily enough they did! Came back saying "happy to wait just let me know a suitable date and can amend our plans etc..."

Replied back with some more b@ll@cks, the contract we're currently on has been extended and I'm unable to give a date/ time. Haven't heard nothing now so think they've got the message now.

My "nose" is good at detecting difficult customers .... so when I go to visit them, I ask when they want it done - if I don't want to quote I simply say I'm busy for the next x weeks. If they insist on receiving a price, it is a high one so if they do go ahead I'm the winner!
