Driving home tonight and get to a roundabout, had to do a double take as my mate had his decorating firm advertised on plastic boards on the roundabout and the approaches. Thought fair enough but knowing how tight fisted he is wondered how much he paid for the advertising.
Turns out he hasn't paid.
He has had a load of plastic signs made up cheap from the internet and sent some local kid and his mate out in dead of night with a pile of them, some wooden stakes and he has a list of places to put them. roundabouts, junctions etc..
The signs say a mixture of all about his company call number x etc..
but the funniest one is "This roundabout is sponsored by xyz painting and decorating. Call today for a free quote on 123...."
I haven't named him as I do not want to drop him in it. But he reckons it has done quite well as he has had quite a few calls the last month or two since he has been doing this and people have said they saw the sign.

He is going to get some card printed adverts made up soon and get the kid to insert them in the holders above the seats on the bus where the adverts go! he is ruthless. He stopped short of sending the kid over the back fence down the bus depot at night with a long and large sticker one to put on the bus, he laughed about seeing how long it would take them to notice the unauthorised sticker on the bus.
Anybody else had much success with gorilla advertising? I am thinking it might be worth a go, if only to see the response... If you cant beat them join them?
Not sure what laws might be being broken here mind... He isn't damaging anything as its removable with no damage, at worse i imagine a highways offence and possibly tresspass?

The outcome won't be pretty, he can expect to receive correspondence from various lawyers. As far as sponsoring a roundabout goes, is he happy to pay for the ongoing maintenance of the roundabout, obviously through the approved expensive contractor, in addition to an advertising premium? That's what "sponsoring a roundabout" entails.

We have travellers near me that keep doing similar with advertising boards for their block paving drives (they have advanced from putting 5mm of tarmac on your drive).
The sad truth is they will probably get away with it, being of no fixed abode, no assets that can be proved are theirs and the only contact being a non contract mobile phone.
