We plan to upgrade our 500w inverter to a 3000w inverter in order to accommodate a .75hp water pump (used only three times per week for 20mins), a small fridge and a couple of standing fans. We currently have 4 x 120w solar panels, 2 x 24v batteries and a Vitron Blue Solar MPPT 100/50 charge controller. Can you please advise whether any of these pieces of equipment need to be changed in order to work with the larger inverter. Many thanks

That will be a big increase in battery draw, about six times, from say 20A to 125A.
What is the type and rating of your batteries - are they lead acid or Lithium or ??, and how many AmpHours etc?
While you may only need 20 minutes of high current via the 3 kW inverter for the pump, if that depletes the lead acid batteries more than say 30%, it could shorten their life considerably.

Lead acid 100Ah

Thanks. So you have two 100Ah 24V batteries in parallel?
Assuming the batteries are fully charged before you run the pump for 20mins (on the new 3kW inverter) with nothing else using power, I think you should just be OK. Need the right gauge of wiring obviously!
I have no experience of solar systems, so I hope someone else with more knowledge comes along to help ?
