I went to a property recently to replace a faulty wired smoke alarm, the consumer unit has recently been changed but I couldn't get the door to the mcbs to open.
So I removed the cover to switch off the relevant one, whist inside I took some pictures of things I thought seemed wrong.
Photo's enclosed below

Hmmm... at least it’s a metal CU??

Was there a reason it could be mounted another inch higher, just to get the door open.
Id be inclined to take the door off, and fashion some other hinge.

Also wondering why such a huge earth cable? What’s the size of the tails?

And SWA gland..... that’s just lazy.
