You could just go to the pub, drink copious amounts of alcohol and snog lots of women.... Blame it on a traumatic experience...

Are you referring to the OPs post or mine where I go on about drinking copious amounts of alcohol and snog lots of women?? :)
I'll send my Mrs round she knows how to keep the tea I made for Her in the morning stay hot all day, trouble is after many trips to the nukewave, it's a devil of a job to get the tea stains out of the cup.

Did you read the instructions? I read somewhere that you have to put water in them? Has your apprentice blown a fuse too? ;)

@telectrix getting a tad cranky at the ads?

To quote one of your own....

“Calm down! calm down!”

Kettle down? Gives you an excuse to drop in at nearest Mac’s, Starbucks or Costa on way to job.

On the 2kW v 3kW question. Who cares? The microwave would boil water a lot quicker at only 800W

You can now buy these kettle things that only boil enough water to fill your mug 2/3 of the way.

The obvious answer is that they would cost the same but I think there would be a difference.

The difference would be incredibly small, but the 2kW kettle would, as far as I can see, assuming both are made of the same material and have the same thermal insulation properties, use fractionally more energy than the 3kW.

I think that as the 2kW kettle takes longer to boil the water more heat will be lost from that kettle, therfore more total energy input will be required.

I remember doing this (and getting it wrong) in Chemistry.
It takes x amount of energy to heat water by 1 degree.
It’s one of them constants.
The more energy you use, the quicker the water will heat, but at the end the same amount of energy is used.

This is correct if you make the assumption that once the heat energy has been transferred to the water it stays there, in other words no heat energy is lost to the atmosphere.
In reality some heat energy will be lost from the water whilst it is being heated.

Which ever you have got used to is the best... as you have to go back and re-boil , if you miss judge it.
( get distracted doing something else - Multi-tasking. )
--Slowest may be best if need excuse to brew proper tea for 5mins -- then boil more for coffees.
