Noticed when I tried to put a link to the IET Electrical website (about an update/corrigendum to the Wiring Regs) that the forum strips/anonymises the URL.

I can (sort of, reluctantly), understand the reasons for not wanting links to certain commercial/competing/spammy websites, but surely a link to the folk who write the Regs we all follow is a legitimate thing... no?

Link to my post, where I tried to link to the IET press release about the corrigendum: Corrigendum to BS_7671:2018+A2:2022 - https://www.electriciansforums.net/threads/corrigendum-to-bs_7671-2018-a2-2022.207549/post-1825584

Think it's been like that for years. Not sure of the reason though.

Huh. I wonder if anything can be done about it? I didn't want to hassle/message anyone about it, but links to the IET seems a pretty bizarre thing to ban.

It’s as simple as this is a commercial site, owned by Dan and from which he makes his living (along with the sister sites). Links to alternative but similar sites that might cause a loss in traffic to here are simply not in his (and ultimately ‘ours’ as site regulars) best interests. Yes, it can be a bit restrictive at times but ultimately exists for good reason. I’ve been admin/mod on other similar sites over the years and it’s no different for those.
