Mains Leads.
I supply machines that are 21 amp per phase. the CE certification states a 2.5 5 core lead should be fitted. Which we do.
I have been asked to fit 4.0mm because the mains breakers are 32 Amp.
Isn't this the wrong way round? if the fuse was bigger it makes no sense to fit a bigger mains lead as the machine is still 21 amps per phase.

catch 22. 2.5mm cable is rated at 27A. that is against In < Iz, so to comply you need to eirhter reduce the In of the MCB to below 27A,or increase the cable size to be capable of carrying 32A.

only get-out might be if it's a fixed load, only needs short-circuit protection as long as there's no chance of overcurrent.

thanks, tectrix
The load is an electric fryer which I would class as a fixed load. it's a pandora's box of a question. the CE regs say that if the machine load is between 16 amp and 25 amps a 2.5 cable should be fitted. the fryer was tested by the CE and cenelec and if I change the leads this could infringe the certification.
However, the premises these go into have fuse boards that only do 16 or 32 amp breakers.
As you say "catch 22"

then you are OK with 2.5mm on a 32A MCB. fixed loads will nor require overcurrent protection, only short circuit protection. 433.3.
