Hey guys..

Trying get a bit of sound advice from some of the qualified long term sparks out there on mates rates.. Being a builder turned spark Ive never had to do any elec work for a mate until now, its always been the building favours..its getting easier

Heres what Ive done - Bathroom light fitting change, kitchen light fitting change, spur going outdoors off ring and fault finding on a lighting crcuit with two fittings not functioning( After flood damage)... All sorted, Tested & certified - Minor works.. Charged £70.00 Am I really being too nice?..

Any good rules or boundaries on this before I have them all asking for this & that, cheers in advance...

No rights or wrongs in pricing , just what you are both happy with.
as a general rule i knock off standard prices , 30% for friends , 50% for family.
but im exceptionally generous lol.

A lot depends on how close a mate they are, there are friends of mine who I wouldn't take a penny from. Others who would get a reduced rate, close family never pay under any circumstances. Not in my world anyway.
They are expected to provide materials of course

Sound advice that.. I will bare it in mind, its always a difficult one init if youve all sorts involved in the job. If you have an arssy fault finding job its always awkward trying to explain you could be an hour or half a day..Any guidlines on that?

Cheers Biff

Yes Trev, same here for family zero rates.. Its actually a friends parents, he has done a bit for me, but same way Ive done likewise.. Yes this is defo the reduced rate mate.. You know how word travels wouldnt want all extended mates expecting the same. I think Ive done it cheap enough maybe and not to cheap

Cheers Trev

70 quid sounds reasonable, put it this way... THEY certainly cannot grumble with that price.

The only problem I would find in this situation is keeping a consistent pricing structure. This time you may charge 70 but on another visit you may charge an extra 50 quid?
