I'm amazed people buy these things. You don't need electrical knowledge to realise how daft the idea of a 'power saving plug' is. Surely it only takes two brain cells to realise that any device that could make appreciable energy savings at negligible cost would be mandatory and probably given out free to help the government achieve green targets. Or they would be built in to appliances to make them more attractive purchases due to better energy ratings. Or even part of the supply network.

OTOH, Homoeopathy doesn't make sense either.

Your amazed @Lucien Nunes because you are an engineer and instantly recognise something like that as somewhere between highly unlikely to work enough to make a measurable difference and totally impossible to work at all.

there is a huge part of society that has little understanding of electricity or physics so the waffle that is used in the adverts is designed to confuse and "educate" those people.

the people pedalling these things are not trying to sell to you or I or the majority of the forum members because there sales patter is falling on deaf ears or challenged to the point that they don't understand what we are asking!

any convincing con starts by persuading someone that the thing that is too good to be true, is in fact true and is just hidden away from most folks because the power company or authority's etc. don't want anyone to know about it, so today is the lucky day i show you the secret, blah blah blah.

the same cons have been going since before electricity was discovered, they just involved other things instead.

If all the petrol saving devices available for my car worked, theoretically, if I fitted them all, my tank would overflow.

Surely ESF weren't responsible for the temporary lash up in that video?!

Metalclad socket was probably a good call though!
