MET on a TT system?

Going to do a consumer unit change and earthing upgrade on tt system for my coming assessment in two weeks,straight forward enough.. all earthing straight to the consumer unit..untill i look in the IEE ELECTRICIANS GUIDE TO THE BUILDING REGS..which shows a main earthing terminal, and 16mm to the consumer unit ( as per TN systems) which way would u go for an assessment ? does it make any difference? thanx

Staight from the earth spike to the consumer unit is always best. Less liklyhood of any of the protective earths being disconnected in the CU.

No problem with a MET as long as its labelled but straight to CU is always my preferred option.

As long as it can be easily disconnected for testing then external MET (labelled correctly) or CU is fine. Many people go for external MET as it can be awkward to get out of the CU block, but personally, I prefer keeping it all in the CU.

External MET is my preferred option.

yeah either way is fine. External or within your CU both terminals are officially METs, all you are doing is extending the capacity of the MET by adding the external one, dont forget for the external one you should have a warning on or near saying " safety electrical connection - do not remove"

My preferred installation is always to an external MET. Everything accessible without having to start taking CU/DB covers off and fighting your way through dressed cables to disconnect earthing and bonding cables for testing!! lol!!

Totally understand where you are coming from with this, and with some CU's which are very awkward, I go external. I generally install Crabtree starbreaker units and find it quite easy to get to the MET inside.
Each to their own tho
