Hi, need a little help on something i dont quite understand, hope you can help - here goes- if you were to do a job (any job large or small) then first step is to check main earth, main bonds are ok - so here lies the questions.......

1. if no bonding at all - no work unless its put right

2. bonding exists but its not as per 17th (ie main 6mm not 10mm) then would it require upgrading, marking down as inadequate or be ok if its continuity is good?

you need water and gas bond in before you start any work.if got 17th edition board then you dont need any supplementry in room containing a shower or bath[special locations].doesnt take much to change from 6 to 16mm main earth to keep the job right.

yes i agree but if customer wont accept extra work is it permissable to do work and mark down earthing not adequate/needs improving or not?

Just don't mention it, most times it's simple. Just add a tenner or so, do the job..then say btw I've upgraded you earthing arrangement for nothing...most customers like that.
If long runs and time consuming then you have to try and explain.

a very good idea to get around - but im looking from a regulation point of view and cant seem to find the answer MUST it be put right to 17th before any work started or can it be put down on eic as needs improving?

many thnx for replies

I don't think that you will find it stated anywhere that the bonding must be upgraded ( although I may be wrong). But as any work you will be carrying out must comply with 17th, then the bonding should comply as well. That's how I interpret it anyway. Hope this helps.
