A poor comparison to be honest Des related the BNP to the like of Mr Cockburns exotic if not loony threads, im humming and arring about whether the ban was neccessary but you have to consider the legality of the situation the site may find itself in if advice given by him leads to injury or death of joe public ..... i agee plenty of threads can be considered poor advice if not dangerous but once the OP is shot down in flames then they usually go into hibernation with their tail between their legs.... well until Mr Cockburn reared his head as he has a persistant habit of sitting on the high chair, refusing to listen to anyone and offering poor if not dangerous advice and he does this throughout his threads and others with a habit of lowering the tone and dropping to name calling and undermining everyone elses views regardless of the fact he's wrong.

Although i enjoy his stupidy for the laugh i do think he will drag everyone down to his level, hes banned on IET as well as here... so it seems he's got a reputation that is gladly unwanted.

All true, unfortunately it's got absolutely nothing to do with banning Mr Cockend. This is a forum on the internet, neither of which can be described in anyway as democratic. It also has nothing to do with Mr Cockend's freedom to express his views as that still remains intact. He can set up a web site, start his own forum, sell his books etc. If he takes any of those routes the main difference will be that only he will be held responsible if someone follows his nonsense and causes damage or injury. If the same happens with information found on this forum then the forum owners can beheld jointly liable as they have failed to take all reasonable steps in their duty of care to morons.

The forum is not an exclusive electricians domain,it is open to all sorts,whether in the trade or simply lay people who enjoy participating
Alll views on this forum are a variety of correct incorrect and sometimes stupid and even dangerous opinions/advise call it what you will

I fail to accept the argument that this or any other talking shop has a responsibility for the content of the members,be it correct or incorrect
The forum is not any sort of reference,rule or guidance body and the legal system would have no interest whatsoever if someone were stupid enough to take court action for negligence after they have sought advise here
There are regulatory bodies for the electricians and layman to access and those are the places that need concern themselves with correct advise

Being the open forum that I claim it is,the action of banning the guy because his views did not fit in with our own more sensible thoughts was wrong.that is why I made the abuse of democracy example

Alright i see the legality point of view but isn't it in the interest of the admin' to weed out what is nothing more than a troll, it was his view or not at all i even specified 2 regulation areas that flawed his argument but he chose only to respond to the posts that hadn't cornered him, he was getting abusive and insulting in his manor and that is why i believe he was issued a ban not because of his views....

We can't let him stay just because hes amusing us for the wrong reasons- the same rules apply to all members he was warned and chose to ignore it!
