Is this true?

Browsing around sparks forums and saw this. Anybody else heard of this?

Part of becoming Part-P registered/compliant is to have a full set of test instruments (NIC, Elecsa, Napit etc...)

Part-P ers!

What did your Part-P assesors expect to see re test instruments during your assessments?

What "test" instruments do you own?

It means either have seperates or a multifunction tester - i use the Fluke 1652 but had a Megger MFT before which was just as good.
You'll also need an approved voltage indicator.

So a decent MM and a voltage indicator is sufficient?

Fair enough.

(I couldn´t see why a Fluke or Meggar MM type affair would be frowned upon - if they are accurate then why the problem? Didn´t make sense to me).

A multi-meter is not the same as a multi-function meter which you need to test installations with, a multi-meter is used for checking voltages, resistance etc.

You need to get the terminology right as if not when you take exams and put down the wrong wording then you will be marked wrong.

Old habit I´m afraid.

And let´s be honest, the differences are down to marketing really and not technical at all - to measure volts is one function and resistance another (for example) i.e two different functions.

No need to be so curt though mate!

yes however most multi function testers have the ability to test for Earth Loop Impedence, PFC, RCD's Insulation resistance among others as well. So there is a difference

good luck though
