Can I use an old rewireable fusebox as a junctionbox to a new consumer unit? I could remove the line busbar and just pop the new cable into the top of each breaker. As long as it's clearly labelled as a junction box is this within the Regs? New one has to be through the wall in garage, old one is inside a cupboard inside. There's not enough space for the new one where the old one is.

What do you think chaps?

Not the ideal method, very rough way, you can do a simple professional job with a adaptable box short piece of din rail and din rail mounted connectors, this way all neutrals and earths are still seperate through out the circuit unless you were going to put connectors on every neutral earth in this fusebox which would be a right clutter.
Using the neutral bar and earth bar wouldnt be good as anyone performing a P.I.R. would be in total confusion with the readings if they dont find the joint.

I would rip out the old C/U put up a reasonably sized adaptable box and through crimp and shrink wrap new cables onto the old and then put them through the wall to the new C/U position. eliminates confusion and looks better.Cheers

Yep, I would tend to go with your advice guys. I was just being lazy, and i wasn't hugey happy with the idea of merging neutral and earths pre c/u, and thinking about it .... it wouldn't work with split neutral busbars in the new c/u. Cheers, darkwood and pennywise, wise words as usual.
