a friend of mine is starting to work for himself and has some projects coming up that require more tahn just himself as do i and we were considering working together on all of them under my name as im already set up and reg'd,
for the first few jobs hes gonna register as self employed and just invoice me for time and if it work then see where it goes from there.
does any one else trade as partners and does it work well . and if so any tips on creating a successful relationship

all depends on the people involved. i have seen some with great friendship and some that have had them broken. only you really know.

In my experiance partnerships never work , I've been in one , my brothers been in one and my father was in one , none of them worked.

Not recommended but if you go down that route to be fair to both of you you must have a contract drawn up so you both know where you stand when the partnership is disolved it will happen and it is as messy as a divorce unless the partnership contact is drawn up as to who gets what.

I used to work for a partnership of 2 brothers. Between 7am and 6pm they hated each other after that they were really good friends. Stess is a factor in business partnerships, no doubt.

Partnerships can work so long as your both willing to step over each others ego this is probably the biggest downfall with partnerships you both need to be singing from the same hymm sheet from the start and not polishing each others ego

Was in a partnership for about 3 months, its testing and pushes the boundaries of friendship. It can quite easily turn sour and did for us. Its a mistake I don't plan on repeating.

Can you not work for him on his contracts and vice versa?

i have one friend who i have worked for and with in the past and it was all good and would do it again. on the other hand i have another good friend that i have worked with and would never ever do it again. i think the world of him but would end up doing time if we had to work together. rather be friends.

:D well my other half thinks she has trained me well; but i have trained myself to let her think i do what she wants.

a bit like politics with the first lady in my house, i just avoid questions she will not like the answers too. and when she asks how much was that £900 tester it was a good deal at the wholesalers got it for £99 honest :) when i say first lady i don`t mean there is more than one, urgh two to contend with and keep happy no thanks one is more than enough.

money is root of all evil and you would fall out over it, stick to being a boss and hire help then theres no arguing when you want to do things your way, as im sure you will

I've been in 2, one with my best man, god father to my children and best friend who I'd known for 25 years (since under 9's football) in pub ownership and other interests. We fell out to an extent that we don't bother with each other any more. He had no business interests out side our partnership although I had my electrical business which was very successful whilst our other business's struggled. After getting in with the wrong crowd he fell out with me believing something funny was going on which it wasn't. He actually stitched me up on buying me out on the pubs whilst I took properties but I'm glad it's all over with now.

My brother in law worked with me, not in a partnership just as an employee but I believe he had hopes to take over in future however now I have brought my children into the firm and they've moved us forward, he has also left trying to claim wrongful dismissal even though I have never dismissed him and have plenty of work for him. He's currently doing foreigners whilst getting sick pay off me and has been for 6 months. It's a big dissapointment but I think he just got jelous of the success others were having and he does not see what others have given to achieve this.
