Allright chaps.

I carried out an extension for a woman last year, and she recently had new tenants move into one of her LET properties. The insurance people insisted she got her appliances tested, the ones that were existing for new tenant.

So she called me as she had used me before.

It was three appliances. It took me about 40 minutes, plus 10 minute journey each way.
I would never take on such a small workload but she was an existing client and I like to keep them happy.
Whilst I was there I did notice her consumer unit was in need of upgrading. But i'm gonna give her a little heads up that it will likely be picked up in the future that it needs to be done, I'm not the kinda guy who says it 'must be done' as this is not the case.
Bonding was a little beyond the distance, but was present.

So anyways, I'm thinking that my invoice will go a little like:

Setup & Administration charge: £30
Price per test: £3
Total: £39

I cant remember the last time I did an invoive so low :p, I'd sooner just dissolve the cost somewhere else but these certificates need to be recorded.

I've not declared any costs yet to her. She left me a phone message earlier reminding me she hasn't payed me yet.

So I'm happy with the invoice, I believe it covers my time affectivley, and the per appliance cost is fair. I would just like to know if anyone here would price it differently, or not even take on this small amount of work?

don't think you could be fairer than that, mate. as you say, such jobs are not worth bothering with on their own, but to keep an existing customer happy, you have to do it. profit comes when you do the CU change, or any other major works for them.an don't forget the PIRs that come back to you on rented property.

I charge the same up to a certain amount if you go above 200 items i charge 1.75 per item plus a £30 admin charge (not £30 per item)

my local village i charge 95p plus 2.99 admin outside the village i charge £30-50 for upto 30 items..! depending on location

existing customers i charge 95p + £2.99 or Free with a Yearly Visual or PIR Inspection

it`s always nice to look after the good customers. i have gone round and re-set an rcd on a sunday night free of charge before for a customers wife who had a big chain of night clubs. the tea and bickies were a nice way of payment though :D oh and some really nice gifts for my kids from them for christmas

i reset a auto door at a charity club house for free and got 1 cup of tea while there and some broth to take home in a carry out tray! :)

I would charge the same, however my daughters pre-school nursery - a local independent family run nursery has asked me to pat test 4 items they have just bought and I have agreed to do for free.

Firstly because it is my daughters nursery and won't take me that long and I have just noticed that all of there other appliances are due there testing in January.

I'm thinking - I do them a favour now yes ok they take my money to look after my daughter every morning but it is only £25 per week, and come January I hopefully will get the job to do the lot. I am giving them the quote next week anyway so just thought it would be nice to do this little one for free.

My wording was what you would pay me put back in for the halloween party - this way I look like the good local business.

Personally I wouldn't bother to itemise the bill, I would just do a bill for £40 (or whatever) all in!

I think it's a bit expensive,
personally I charge £2 per item for the first 50 items
£1.75 for the next 50 items
and £1.50 an item after that.

but you can identify other works that require carrying out at the same time

Richard

Yeah sounds about right.... had same scenerio a while back... pat test for 2 items (regular customer). 1/2 hour all done with printed certificate. Only 5 mins drive from home but charged £35.
