Pay rise

Hi all
just got call last night from apprentice asking if I could give him a pay rise.
Situation worked for me for a year PAYE got holiday even paid 8 days sick last year over 3 different times.
Last year he paid his own college & day off as I did not won't an apprentice.
This year his college course would not fit around work so he asked me if I would let him be an apprentice &
company pay for him to attend, this is something in beginning I did not wont to do.
With regard to PAYE we could not put his wages back to apprentice rate as he already earned more.
Started college September with company paying now I get a call last night he wants a pay rise.
Worked out his pay for the day off & he gets extra £1.00 per hour because we pay day off.
Only last week I had to give him a rollicking because tool box nearly f... Kin empty kids today,
what are your thoughts ?

Sounds like he needs a performance appraisal.
Give him some examples of where you feel he needs to improve and then you can review the pay situation, within a set time frame.
Is he making or costing you money at the moment?

not really making money at present on him as work we are doing is fairly new to him, but with the amount we have he should improve.

Your not really there to make money on him but to teach him the trade so it carries on correctly and it will put an end to Electrical Trainee and such.
