We've got a three lanterns outside [first] and the hall light [second] near the front door off one two gang switch. I was just wondering if its OK to have a dimmer switch controlling the two together.

The rest of the Hall lights upstairs and down the far end are on two pairs of dimmers so wanted them all to match.

if you are saying you want to put PIR lights on dimmers, the answer is NO. The PIRs need a steady 230v to work. I would feed the PIR lights from elsewhere, ideally through a FCU . Then fit a 1 gang dimmer for the hall. Obviously you have to disconnect the existing feed to the outside lights.

What's an FCU? The socket has already been plastered around it. Too late to make changes that's done now.

I don't want to dim the lanterns. The dimmer would be always turned on full. That not OK?

It's just about having a nice looking switch. I don't want to have a two gang rocker switch.

If you by pass the pir's in the fitting you can then dim the lanterns as a normal switch ,having said that if you use low enery lamps you will then need the type that are dimable , doing this you will disable the PIR so it will only work with the switch

An FCU is a Fused spur ,i wouldnt reccomend it as if the dimmer was turned down you could damage the PIR ,you can get all types of switches these day have alook round you are not limited to big rocker switches

I can't foresee why the lanterns would ever need to be turned off.

We've got the Screwless Flat Plate Lightswitch design in the rest of the house. I can't find anywhere that sells a combination of a rocker/dimmer and even if there is a site it may not match entirely, slight different colour, knob thickness.

Hi

Not sure what you are trying to do, bt you could get the switch and dimmer on two gang plate using grid system, only problem back box needs to be deep for dimmer switch, most electrical factors keep grid system with various plate colours.

Lanterns outside front door, always turned on. Sensors activate lights.

Down stairs Hall light controlled by a dimmer.

A standard off the shelf two gang dimmer switch like the one in the first post will work but its not recommended I'm hearing, yeah?

That's all no new components, or rewiring. Plasterer has finished.

I don't want to dim the lanterns I just want to buy a three pack of the two gang dimmers and install the same one two down stairs one up all I the hallway.

I can never imagine switching the lanterns off. The sensors will do that job but I guess you have to have a switch just incase.

I'm abit confused as to what you want to do also, but if your saying you want your switches to match you can get "dummy dimmers" made up, I've had a few done, just the other day I had a 2 gang dimmer made where 1 side was a standard dimmer switch and next to it was just a push on off switch (both turn knobs)

If you say you want the lights on dimmer PIR, the answer is no. PIRwill work on a permanent 230v. I also NIR light diet, ideally by theFCU. 1. January adjustment below the Band Hall. Of course, you have to feed torque to the existing outdoor lighting.
