anyone can rewire a house but knowing how to do it is why people need sparks

Yep ...... while I was rewiring my builder mates house, he decided to "help" by fitting some metalclad sockets to his garage.

I let him get on with it just to keep him out of my way and went to check on his work later.

Found he used 6mm G/Y shaved down a bit for flyleads between the faceplates & backbox ............

Sparking??? Piece of pi$$ .. it's just a few wires ...........

Looks like the OP vanished into thin air

i think the OP needs to take stock of any critisisms in here..and burn some midnight oil digesting BS7671...then applying it to the works he carries out....

I think the OP should just give up.

His customer must be off their head if they take this fool on to save £400!

one thing (out of many) i have learnt fairly recently, i am ashamed to admit, is that there is 'a' valid reason why work carried out by trades can appear 'expensive'. yes, work can be done cheaper and to a similar standard, but when there is a problem during or after work's carried out, then the difference will show. my latest 'catchphrase' is; 'they might not be the cheapest, but if there's a problem, they'll always come back'.

Looking at the quotation ,thats if its printed out the same ,it doesn't look as if the sparks quoting the work originally has a clue either ..

I reckon after all the headscratching and titting about time on this job, he will end up £400 out of pocket.
I suspect this is a real possibility although it may have been said in jest.

The only problem is I don’t know what the hell this sparks is quoting them for?!?!
It sounds like you've quoted on a job the you don't fully understand the scope of works or any idea of how you're going to sign off or notify the work or how much this will cost.

It sounds like you haven't done any preliminary testing of the installation.

and found that I can do the job £400 cheaper and that’s still given me enough profit. They are happy and want me to proceed.
I'm sure the homeowner is over the moon with your price but how on earth do you know if you'll even break even if you you don't understand the scope of works and you don't know your signing off/notifying costs?

Not an ounce of jest Marvo. I can see it a mile off. Just as I can see a dissatisfied customer with half a job done in the not too distant future.

i`v already asked him this...

i just dont think he has a sweet doodle clue....sorry Marv....

Giving a Certificate to customer!! BUT how you going to register the job if you're not in a 'scam' sorry "scheme"!!!

Anyone can pull cable, installs, etc!!! Leave the job to professionals!!!!

i've not read every post, but the previous spark who quoted is 1 MCB short of a full board.

Good advert for Part Peeee on his 'home page'........at least it's passing water, I suppose.

You will notice that the person who started this had gone quiet... If this person is for real, it's some what concerning that he has a jib card etc as his website states....

Part p but not in a scheme.... It's the scheme that gives you the part p blooming status FFS, when are people going to realise this! He has only sat an easy exam on building regs to satisfy the scheme.

On another note, I've got a board change early next week and I'm going to move it slightly for ease and have just bought a load of those din rail connectors from wago, I don't usually move a board but this time I feel it's needed, I have to say the din rail connectors seem like such a good idea and a really nice product. I was hoping I'd be able to pick up a dual cd mk board with 10 mcbs for £50 but can't seem to find one... Anyone seem anywhere with them on offer?

It also states the 'gold' card ... can't believe for one second that lad, whilst asking them sort's of questions, has the gold card.

He has to have lied on his website, because if he hasn't ... dear god...

Screwfix was the last time I saw Mk boards on special , that was a while ago though, why not try BG ,,

Maybe I should put a quote in.

I haven’t the foggiest about domestic. I’d probably demolish the house in the process, but I’d guarantee its electrical safety.

Glenn would you sign it off for me?

I normally stick to mk as I like them, but am happy to try something else, what do you and others recommend? I have heard BG boards aren't bad. What about hager? Like I say I usually just buy mk as have loads of spares and breakers etc.
