Personally I don't mind police not recording a crime as long as it works both ways,a couple of years ago I had a car vandalised on my drive,rang the police and they were not interested,fine say's I I'll find out who did it and break his legs.Well say's plod in that case we'll arrest you for assault,my reply was along the lines of "well if you did your job then I wouldn't have to do it for you".
Incidentally when the police was formed there was a caveat in the legislation that if it ever came to the point where the police where unable to protect the populace then the people had the right to take back the job of protecting themselves.As far as I am aware this is enshrined in law and cannot be altered,in which case someone in government had better sit up and start taking notice,because the way things are heading legalised vigilantism cannot be too far away.
