Hi guys,

I'm a small business owner who maintains canal boats at a boatyard with a 3-phase supply. I have about ten years of experience working with 12 volts and single-phase electrics, effectively undertaking an informal apprenticeship with a time-served electrician.

I am looking to gain qualifications to enable me to work on domestic as well as commercial sites (my own included). I am currently undertaking a course where I will gain the following:
  • Logic Certification Domestic Electrical Installer – Part P (Full Scope)
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, BS 7671:2018 (City & Guilds 2382-18 – QCF Level 3)
  • Initial Verification, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (Logic Certification QCF Level 3)
What would be the next logical qualifications for me to get? I'm finding it's a bit of a minefield! I'm looking at Level 3 2365. Would I be able to skip Level 2 with what I have, and is this C&G qualification even suitable?

I'm also looking to gain qualifications not only to work legally on my current premises but also as a fall-back in case it's a carrier path I want to take later on it life.

Thanks in advance :)

therre is a possible alternative. JIB run a mature candidates assessment to get a gold card. i don't know exactly what's involved, but you'd definitely need to swot upon 3 phase theory, and try and get some practical experience beforehand. contact JIB for more info.

Thanks for this. I certainly wouldn't have the knowledge or experience to jump straight to a gold card - I'd have to go the long way round. Given that I could only study part-time, what's the best way to do this?
