Evening all..

The building we are wiring at the minute has two rather large water mains coming into the building. They enter the building in plastic pipe in the basement with a run of about 15m, then the plastic stops and is then plumbed in copper.

My question is, as there is two water mains do both require bonding from the MET or can just one length of cable be used to bond to the first main then without cutting cable, clamp to the next main?

Cheers

Had that this week builder thought he was doing me a favour when he ran the 10mm to the gas and the water, just he did it in one run and cut the bloody thing at the gas and then carried onto the water, and now it all nicely protected in the SCREED:( .

How can a plastic service pipe (insulating) be an extraneous conductive part (liable to introduce earth potential) and therefore require main protective bonding?

Cheers for the replys guys.

Also whilst on the subject, the buildings gas main is a 42mm'er which enters with the water main then proceeds to the top floor. The pipe is of a flexi (ali I think) type and covered with a PVC outer.
You lot know whats coming.... Would you bond this?

My point is, the copper pipe in question is neither an exposed conductive part nor an extraneous conductive part, and therefore does not require earthing or protective bonding.
Supplementary bonding may be required if it is an exposed part in a special location where the required disconnection times cannot be met, or additionally where required by manufacturer's instructions eg, under a combination boiler.

It is stated that, if the supply is plastic and the installation is copper, then the bonding should be connected to the copper at point of entry.

I have just, this very day, done exactly that.
