Hey all, Anyone here get their ratchet crimp tool calibrated ?
Heard of it myself but never had mine done, some recommend after 5000 crimp actions including a calibrated tug test as it were. My normal ones used most are just for red, blue and yellow pre ins crimps but can't see many places offering the calibration ? Thanks.

When I did my apprenticeship with a panel manufacturers our crimpers were calibrated every 6 months but imagine unless you have a very expensive set it would be cheaper to replace them if you are worried they aren't crimping correctly

If the dies close snugly metal-metal at both ends, and the nests aren't visibly worn, it can't be far out. With the quality of some of the crimps on the market I'd be much more concerned about those, especially whether the die suits them, than the adjustment of the tool itself. If you use a particular brand of crimps with specified performance, along with the manufacturers' recommended tool and die, then you have more control over the quality of the finished connection and it's worth keeping the tool in spec.

The only time I've had to prove calibration on a set of ratchet crimpers for R/B/Y crimps is when doing work for the nuclear industry.

For the sake of it I just buy a set each time a job comes around that comes with a cal cert.

Slightly different for the hydraulic ones we use for bigger stuff, they get sent off every few months.
