It fits down something like an 8" diameter well pipe

It's cylindrical shape stainless steel finish
It's a borehole pump. The top half is the motor, and they are usually filled with oil to keep out water, using the principle of the diving bell.
They soon overheat if the motor isn't in water.
Sure the hole is a big as 8". The one's I've fitted go down a 4" pipe.

Can't recall now could be 4 or 6

Thanks again , borehole pump sounds about right

Readings were low , unsure if it was waterogged or ran dry.Unfortunately I didn't get to see pump
