Just thought I'd share some pics for anyone interested.
My electrical business is secondary to my full time job in aviation.
Got a helicopter in at the mo for its annual service. You get to see some of the workings not normally visible so I grabbed a few snaps.
First one is behind where the pilots seat normally is. The yellow tubes are control rods. They move vertically as the pilot moves the controls (cyclic, collective, pedals).

Second is inside the rear cab with roof lining removed, showing airframe structure, ventilation and bits of loom.

Third is loom under the console/dashboard.

Fourth is hydraulic packs. They push/pull on the black sections of the mast, controlling rotor blades.

Fifth. 1 x Pratt and Whitney jet engine. !

Six. Circuit breakers...

Seven. This helicopter doesn't have an external tail rotor as such. It does have one inside the body though with 13 individual blades. Here they are laid out for inspection/servicing.

Just thought I'd share those as I'm a bit of an engineering geek at heart.!

GT1 are you servicing it or rebuilding it? Looks complex but very interesting work.

Do you or someone else test fly them before handing them back to the owners?

Firm I work for does the engineering only...
This one is in for an annual service so its a big strip down so the airframe can inspected where needs be. The rest is all mechanical inspections, and replacement of "lifed" items.. ie fixed amount of working hours, then replaced regardless.
They get flown in and out by the owners.

The wiring looms are as thick as your wrist in places, made of the 1mm white aviation flex you can see. Bit fidly for my cup o' tea, but it takes all sorts...

Dead interesting is that, do you know the make & model of chopper??? & what it does day to day???

sweet... GTI i must confess im a bit of a engineering throbber as well..! nice to see what others cant.!

Apologies for the juvenile question but do you reckon if someone locked you in a scrapyard you could razz up a helicopter and fly out of there A-Team stylee?

On a slightly more serious note do you use Deutsch connectors on the ends of the looms?

The fiddly electrical stuff is all pretty much contracted in so dont get involved in it that much except for fault finding.
Avionics is a trade to itself and thers not many of those guys around (majority ex mil). I think the one we use charges £400 per day plus his expenses.. and its a min one day hire regardless.
This one is a privately owned MD Explorer, from america..
I think Eddie Stobart owns one, or did..!
