spike in electrical useage

i have a home battery storage system. a few times now, i seem to be using lots more power than normal.

typically when i check the controller, the house is using around 0.7kW (tv, xboxes etc) however on a few occasions this jumps to 1kW. Yesterday this happened, so i switched everything off, and usage fell to 300w, then soon after to 0.

has anyone else experienced such a 'ghost load'?

Are you sure you switched everything off?

That sounds like a fridge or freezer cutting in and out in its normal operating cycle.

Gas central heating can use 150w, fridge freezer etc another 200 to 300
sounds fairly normal to me
if it was a water heater or space heater, I would expect at least 2000w of usage.
