Good evening everyone, has anyone ever installed a split charge system in a vehicle? i want to put one on my van so i can have an extra battery in the back for various important tools (kettle and microwave:D) i've never done one before and don't know the best route to go either relay kit or diode? or is there another way? cheers;)

It'll be for when i go off with my motocross bike or away for the weekend too so i don't want to be running off the main engine battery, i'll be putting an inverter in there too

Hi a split charger.
Two battery's connected in Parallel one is the vehicles main battery and the other is the auxiliary battery where you take your supply from. You place a 70-100A relay in between the positive cables of the battery's, then connect the coil of the relay to an ignition live so as when the ignition is on the two battery's are paralleled. this is required because if the battery's are left in parallel they will discharge each other.
Hope you get what i mean.
AJ

I've seen the relay kits but they don't look that good, maybe its just a case of building up my own:D, have you heard of the diode system that splits the charge from the alternator? don't which is the best way too go:confused:
