Discuss strict sites in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I put it to you, bloke, if you had been beasted for month after month over BS double standards about glasses and podiums, then nearly been beheaded over substandard scaffolding practices and organisational oversights by main contractors, then keeping people who you've had never seen or spoken to, and who had already had one major incident on the same project, on 'your' side, slips quite quickly down the list of priorities.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Id see my shop steward. Who'd have a word in the decorators ear, no point escalating a situation pointing fingers in a managers office

You need bigger glasses numptee. That's what I just said isn't it? Not wearing a hard hat = not important. Not wearing harness = important, but which do you think gets picked up on where I work?

Read, then jog, on.
I think it was what is known as a rhetorical question mate. I doubt he was having a go at you.

I dont wear glasses the pic in avatar isn't me. You are in some twist this evening is everything alright with you.

BTW all the 'Union' members where I work are taking the pi$$ on the sick for 6 months because their feelings are hurt at tax-payer's expense may I add.

Well i have 2 incidences of absence since ive started my union job seven years ago, one was a funeral (2 days)the other was when i was in hosptal (week). So whats your point

Employee No.1 - into No.8 week of absence, stated reason = bad knees, real reason = fed up because requested holiday from next year's allowance due to bereavement denied.

Employee No.2 - into No.10 week of absence, stated reason = bad back, real reason = fed up because put on slightly lower rate of pay when Single Status pay enforced rather than the bonus, or priced based system that used to prevail.

Employee No.3 - into 8th month of absence, stated reason = stress related skin condition, real reason = can't get on with colleagues and earns better money driving lorries.

Employee No.4 - into 6 month of absence, stated reason = funny turns, real reason = won't let him retire or go on light tasks when others have.

Employee No.5 - back now after 2 months off with 'ganglions' now sits in van being driven around by an electrician and watching...

The waste goes on, and we're effing paying for it.

So what do you have to say to that Mr letfy goggle eyes? Or should I sponsor them through Oxfam, via a Union?

I think you should worry about yourself, relax, if you get any more excited you'll be the sixth man out on the sick.

Ha! I nearly bleeding' was last week, however, I walked off site and went on strike until the screaming skull that was obstructing me wound his neck in and stopped screaming abuse. For goodness sakes, all we have to do is put lights on sticks in the ground for a wage, but some of the dinosaurs that are 'supposed to be helping' me or at least form part of the 'team' that we make up seem to want to make the easiest job in the world, the hardest!

Apologies if any of you are feeling my work based frustrations!

I have just re-read the whole thread and would like to offer my whole-hearted apologies if I have taken some comments in a way that they were not intended to mean.

It is all to easy to read something and respond, and then re-read them in the light of previous and subsequent comments and reach a different conclusion.

However, I still stand by any personal observations which I have relayed to you from my on-site experiences, but I wish to retract any personal comments from my posts that have been caused by an over-sensitivity on my-behalf due to work related stress.

Peace.

I reckon I should be elected for a moderator actually, as soon as debates get on the tipping scale I can just ask for opinions on my VO Products :)

I hope you realise that MOST of my insults were actually aimed at the spazzes that I 'work' with, not members on here. I think it's important to make the distinction.

I think its time to stop worrying about it and continue the debate about voltage optimisers... personally im away to bed (hard days work tomorrow)
Good luck to all of you

why are some of these people still up, its nearly midnight in blighty and im sire im not the only one up before 6.

eng etc live abroad but most of the regulars dont

I worked at Allied Colloids ..a scene of a masssive chemical fire in the 90's .. the event is used as a training video now world wide for all firefighters and chemical companies... Lets just say you can't fart in one of their labs without a gas detector going off.

Joking aside we lost a colleague through a roof skylight on this job many years ago, its now been renamed but you need permission slips to even use a drill in any sector of the site and you are checked on like you have ebola..so yes a very strict site.

For all those that think its all just red tape - during the big fire the fire brigade ignored the fire and just cooled one massive 10story tank because if that went up it would have created a lethal poison caustic cloud and if went bradford way would have seen 5 - 20 thousand casualties/deaths ----- serious sheite in my mind and justified.

We drove within a mile of the fire on the day and there was chemical foam balls floating in the air .... don't think it any lasting effects on me and Im sur...fluffy tedy bears ooooh llalalalalalal sure I got away any side affects.

EDIT... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgFuaZM5FYY

Skip to 1.40mins for an old news report ...we couldn't even go apple raiding that yr :dunce2:

I fairly regularly suffer from insomnia too. Comes and goes in my case!! lol!!
I rarely go to bed these days before 1am and generally up by 6 - 6.30am having my first coffee fix of the day....

....... having my first coffee fix of the day....

There you go, that will keep you in the wide awake club if you drink enough.

I found that by reducing my intake coffee levels to "normal" from almost 1 per hr all day/night from the moment I got up I could eventually get a full 5hrs sleep per night!!

... though that said Ive been awake since 4  so maybe it is an old age thing!!

It is, just look at teenagers, they want to sleep till the afternoon, no matter how early or late they go to bed. As you get older it seems you need less sleep, i can function just as well now on 5 hrs (or a little less) sleep, that i used to need 8 hrs for... lol!!

Sounds like a picnic lol. Offshore its say goodbye to your mobile phone and lighter for 3 / 4 weeks. Green hard hat and an escort if new on some platforms and rigs. Stop Cards, Time out for Safetys and Safety Stand Downs when incidents occur. Then theres the weekly abandon muster at 3 am just as your are dozing off.
And the latest one to me, hearing protection must be worn when outside the accommodation because sound levels are above 75db LOL!

So exactly what HSE regulation was ignored? Please be be specific, direct, and succinct.

"Hello Besoeker",

THIS IS THE FULL PARAGRAPH THAT YOU QUOTED PART OF:

There is an Extreme example of what can happen when Health & Safety Regulations are NOT adhered to - in this case relating to the Storage of the Gas Cylinders - not in Cages or Racks / and not using Safety Caps on the Valves etc.

THE PART THAT YOU LEFT OUT WHEN QUOTING ME [IN RED] INDICATES WHICH AREAS OF HEALTH & SAFETY REGULATIONS TO LOOK AT REGARDING THESE `UNSECURED / IMPROPERLY STORED GAS BOTTLES`.

Regards,

Chris

I have to say I'm in favour of "strict sites". The firms that encourage reporting of unsafe practices should be commended.
Cos there's always some cock who's too clever to take safety seriously. The main problem with that, is invariably some other poor sod gets injured as a result. Having said that I'm a borderline marxist, trade unionist, and I'm currently swatting for another H&S exam so I'm a little bit brainwashed LOL

Are you sure there strict on they're site over their?
:)
Yes it boils my wee too mate
There- A place
Their- Something belonging to them
They're- They are
It's not that hard is it?

Lol you guy's....I could tell you about many more strict sites and the mad stuff they come up with. Even as an apprentice I was on a secure mental hospital in Scotland where we all had to sign a disclaimer to say if we left anything behind that was then used by the patients to cause harm or injury to themselves or others then we would be liable. Tool box's emptied of everything except the essentials for each days work....Inventory checked on the way in and checked on the way out....some prat still managed to "loose" a hacksaw blade...still it all ended ok as it was found in a patients room lol.
All the stuff mentioned in the op's rundown of site measures I have seen on numerous sites. As stated you/we are trying to bypass dawinism and this is what we are left with. I actually agree that lots of groups make far too much cash out of it all. Also as stated it is because directors can find themselves in the dock facing time add to that the financial implications for big firms on big jobs if one of their idiots/workers gets themselves killed.....This is why H&S is so huge and overbearing.

Sounds like that nice place that is mentioned in the news all the time,I used to go out with a nurse that worked in there, but she never ever spoke about her work.
