Hi,
I have a customer that bought a property and planned to have it demolished and rebuilt, so had the gas, water and electrics disconnected by suppliers. The customer then got stuck with planning permission dragging on, so has decided to move their family into the house until they can get the planning permissions required.
The electricity supplier has put in a new meter, and I have been asked to put tails from the new meter to the old consumer unit. Should I be insisting that the consumer unit be brought up to 17th edition before reconnecting, or should I just reconnect tails to existing board?
I will be checking the bonding and earthing before connecting.

Regards
Davisonp

i would do a few tests to ensure that the installation is safe for use. if satisfactory, then there is no obligation to upgrade. it may be advisable to fit an upfront RCD as a temporary measure if there is no RCD installed.
