Hi all,

Hypothetically speaking of course, If HMRC were ever to investigate someone can they contact your scheme to enquire about how many cerificates and jobs you have done to compare against what you have declared to the tax man?

HMRC have got fairly wide powers - I would have thought they would be able to do this.

Surely nobody would have tried to evade tax on jobs where there is a clear paper trail ??

They'll have already got you bang to rights long before then.

The Algorithms comparing similar businesses will have had you first.

Hahaha, im not getting investigated by the way. I work for a company but i am registered so i can sign my own jobs off outside of work. I dont earn enough for the taxman to be sniffing around!!! Was just curious as the test sheets i use have a "Contracts value" section you fill in so thats how the conversation started

I knew one chap who was investigated, a painter not a spark, similar thing. It was all worked out and back monies repaid - very friendly. So he asked, How did you know? Mr Tax wouldn't give details but advised him that 80% of their investigations come from jealous neighbours / family. Who see you working every weekend, they see the new car or holiday you have and they call in and say - this guy is minted, is he declaring it!

Just move to better neighbourhood where the neighbours will set up a crowd funding page for you as they feel sorry that you are lower then they are.

or shoot the sad-arsed jealous tw4ts.

A few years ago I got a £5 tip from a customer and forgot to declare it. I am always worried when there's a knock at the door in case the HMRC found out and have informed the National Crime Agency.
I’m glad I’m not the only honest person Peter...
