These days I mainly work one my own doing the day to day jobs and get subbies to help me on bigger jobs. Many moons ago I used to have up to ten cards in lads working for me. One of the lads used to go out looking at smaller private jobs that needed pricing, bring the requirements back to the office and I would price the job up and send a quote.

We didn't get many orders back. Little did I know that he was telling the customer that once they got our quote he could do the job 25% cheaper for cash. :(

What have you caught your workers doing?

Little rubbish

Here's one...years back,i had a plasterer and his assistant, who was flirted from one of my jobs, for paying said assistant,in weed...Next pair turn up,and on day two,i check to see progress, which was poor, and notice my full box of 6" nails...5KG...is empty.
A minor piece of detective work later, revealed the plasterer had bet the apprentice his wages, that he could stand at the patio doors, and get more nails than him,in the garden pond some 40 meters away...
I always think of those ornamental carp, when i watch Braveheart, and the archers send in that first wave of arrows...;)

I had one once where one of mine bought himself a mars bar using the company fuel card. When they found out at months end, the shiny-pants-lot were all over me to sack him. I bought them their own mars bars and told them to go away :)

What? Who put C3PO ,in accounts?
