No, it's because he's a cracking lad who has been on the tools for years and because he knows what it's like would let the good lads get away with a lot.

My question is: why are you trying to do this bint a favour? My line would have been 'sorry, this is all rubbish. I can't do the remedial work on this report as I don't trust the judgement of this moron, and will have to do my own EICR. Oh and by the way it's going to cost you the discount you normally get because I'm obviously no longer your regular electrician.'

These penny pinching morons, and it's invariably landlords, need to learn the harsh lesson that cheapest isn't necessarily best. I bet she wouldn't care if this fella had just done his £50 report from the van, with a great big SATISFACTORY on it, without checking to see if the house is likely to burn down first. Would you be getting the call to have a look around then? I doubt it, in fact she'd probably let all her mates know 'Ooh, skelton takes bloody forever with the power off, this new fella only takes five minutes, doesn't even turn anything off, AND only charges fifty bucks. He is a superspark'.

Let them dig their own hole. Then, when they become stuck in it, let them realise the true price of a decent ladder.

As Marvo alluded to a few pages back, it's evidence that is required. When doing the remedials can you also complete your own I&T? You don't necessarily have to give your report to the customer but at least there would be two comparative reports in existence. If client then wants to complain to the NICEIC there are the 2 reports for the investigator? to compare. If you are both NICEIC I presume you have the same assessor? As it stands the deficiencies have only been noted verbally by you?

As an aside, I'm not trying to defend Electrical Trainee, but there are good and bad electricians. Some are Electrical Trainee, some are die-hard wont changers and some are from other European countries.

You have hit the nail on the head here, if the inspection had been satisfactory and/or with just a few cheap remedials , you would never have heard from her again.

So what's new he is following an old route of quoting low for EICR then finding things to price for bit like a garage who does a cheap MOT. Had a landlord who got a full refund when he was told he must get an RCD CU and that's the way to catch him out. Also me thinks your landlord has been playing the 2 of you off each other

A year ago I wouldn't have even posted on here asking others opinions, I'd have been phoning him up no question, possibly reporting him to whoever cared enough to listen, but I'm realising more and more that no one gives a ----. My firey nature will never go away but the difference is that my anger is now more geared towards the clowns that let these 5 week chancers operate, not the chancers that are ultimately too stupid to realise what the problem is (they're only trying to make a living anyway). A year ago I had time to confront these idiots, where as these days they're just small fry compared to the criminals I'm now confronting. There simply isn't enough time in the day anymore but this one inparticular just winds me up! Id have continued letting things be up until the point where he admitted he's still wet behind the ears and yet had the cheek to tell the customer that I'm talking out my a$$! Hence me asking for opinions. I think I'll wait to hear a few more but so far all good points on either side of the coin :)

I can quite understand and sympathise with how you feel towards this young up-start. I had a similar experience although in this case it was a face to face confrontation in Cyprus with a neighbours son-in-law. Who quite believing himself, told me his recent 5 week training meant more than old qualifications because his were more up to-date!! ..lol!! Needless to say things got quite heated, (verbally)!! Haven't spoken to the neighbours since, (2 years) not that i had much to do with them in the first place anyway, just as bloody thick as the son-in-law!! lol!!

This guy was in his middle to late 20's who had been a warehouse fork lift driver for most of his short working life. Though it gave me the satisfaction of putting this wanna-be electrician in his place in no uncertain terms, i doubt very much if his attitude of superiority towards older fully qualified electricians has changed much.

At the end of the day, i wouldn't go out of my way to confront this joker, spend the time in more profitable pursuits... They just aren't worth your valuable time, not unless you hear of him dissing your company to established clients and the like, not that he'll find that too easy to do!! lol!!

Hahahaha...
It all just makes me laugh, 5 weeks or whatever training on electricity, is like trying to open a vacuum packed food product with a 300mm diameter piece of wood with a perfectly rounded end.
