I am currently employed by the RAF as an Electrical Engineer/Technician, but I'm interested in going down the route of a domestic electrician.

I'm wanting to know if anyone else has gone through this transition, and would be able to advise me what the right steps would be in terms of qualifications & courses etc.

I'm guessing that because I've already done an apprenticeship within the electrical sector, that I wouldn't need to do a full domestic apprenticeship?

Qualifications I hold are :
  • Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Engineering Maintenance
  • 18th Edition wiring regs
  • PAT Testing

TL;DR
Transition from Electrical Engineer/technician to Domestic Electrician
I think your background would be suited to maintenance or industrial work. Either way inspection and testing is a very worthwhile qualification. It was just C&G 2391 back when I did it, I think it may of been split up into different parts now. I'm sure some others on here will know the current situation.

I've looked at the C&G 2391, and that's something I'm keen on getting as my interests lay within the installation side of things.

I know the 2391 can be done as a quick course, but to become Installation qualified am I going to have to complete another NVQ, as the NVQ level 3 I hold is Maintenance based?
