Help, new to the forums but an NIC contractor for the last 20yrs....
I need to 'break' 50mm 3phase tails next week and install blocks (at least 4ways) for the installation of a PV system by others.

The incoming supply is 170amp per phase.

Denmans and a local wholesalers cannot find me any 'mains blocks' suitable. The normal RDL type blocks are only rated at 100amp and i dont think i will get 50mm tails in them,

Can someone point me in the direction of a brand or supplier of such things... urgently please.

100amp ones have max 25mm2,anyhow that doesnt solve your problem, considering its solar orientated im wondering if moving the thread to the solar part of the forum will throw up some ideas, there has to be something on the market.

just had a flash of brain fade, henley .... of course...
Thanks.
Now just to find someone who stocks them or can get them asap as the local numptie wholesalers cant get me any..

You may find getting an enclosure and fitting panel connector blocks an option as they come in a variety of sizes, id also double check your tail sizing if they are 70 degrees thermoplastic in free air then you getting very close to the max load if not exceeding the rating of the cable, if they are any other method like in trunking then you may need a larger cable size. Can i query where you get 170amps per phase as this isnt a standard fusing size so what size are the fuses protecting the tails???

sorry, typo. pretty sure they are 160amp fuses, have'nt got the spec sheet in front of me.
Electricity supply company has asked for 50mm tails, but like you say, oughta do my calcs myself....
thanks for the great help and quick replies, think this is going to be a regualar forum for me know.
cheers

160amps! ... yes alot more comfortable but again its all depending on the installation method which the DNO are probably second guessing you so with such a short length that tails are just a quick reference to the cables current carrying capacity columned to its installation method is usually good enough to show if its good enough. Sorry not trying to teach you to suck eggs here but as you said it was a typo' that originally had me puzzled. :)
