i had a CX estate once. gearbox trouble. the box does not come off, just the casing, leaving a mess of cogs connected to the engine and exposed to wonder at. it went to scrap.

Ah yes. been there, working through the nearside wheelarch. The reverse idler bracket broke away and got chewed between the idler and the casing. Gearbox was full of ali shavings. Cleaned it out and was just putting the selector rods back in when I dropped one of the interlock plungers down into the diff and of course instead of just rolling down to the bottom it got stuck inside the cage. My mate Steve and I spent a week trying to get at the b*****d but had to pull the engine just to free it off.

Well it is all fixed! A thoroughly nice bloke came out this morning and pulled the offending injectors, wasn't the easiest 2 snapped off in the head and the remainder had to be tapped and pulled out! All went back in fine and I have put the rest back together, it is now like a new van again! Whoo!!
Oh also found the oil pipe for the turbo was hanging off, so that won't have done that much good either!
