evening all!

problem with speed controller operated commercial ecxtractor?

mcb tripped then push reset on controller. ok for a few minutes, although not running at full power, then fast blow fuse in controller blown?

would the fan work directly from mains, through mcb, to test
fan itself?

or any suggestions pleade?

how old is the fan?. sounds like it could be on its last legs.

Did you IR test the fan and check the windings. Also test the capacitor if there is one. You can connect the fan directly onto the supply to test it but the MCB is sized to the cable, not the load on the end of it so the fan will not be protected against overload. Things will go downhill rapidly if there's even a minor problem and by the time the MCB trips the fan will already be history.

Even if it appears it is on it's last legs Vent Axia fans are repairable


What model of Vent Axia fan is it to help narrow down the possible problem

thanks for the replies,

i'm going back today to sort it out, the fan is caked in grease so i've asked them to give it a clean up if poss!

i'll post again when i know more.

as it was 9.30 on a sunday night, i didn't do much more than a bit of finding out, then ordered some supper from them!

Caked in grease and in a commercial setting if this is the case replace it

an update. the fan's knackered!

managed to get supply through controller up to fan terminals, changed capacitor, as it was a cheap maybe, but still no joy.

£400 plus vat for new fan, ordering tomorrow, delivery day after direct from vent axia, then a lovely changeover, ans apparently some minor alterations to ducting fixings!

does it have to be connected via a fan speed controller?

from some of the replies, i take it there is some protection for the fan built in to the controller?

No it doesn't you just have to move the speed pack (capacitor block) from the controller to the fan and plug it in according to the speed you require
