I come across 7029 all the time round here on domestics. As SMB said itr's usually tinned. It does usually stand up well in IR tests though I find it an absolute pig to work with.

what's a pig. i find it easy. it's more pliable and doesn't set like concrete in the cold.as does the solid crap we have to use now.

Really? I find it gets really rigid, maybe where it's 'set' over time. Also it's a pain to strip, and if you're replacing an accessory with, say, a spur on it, it's really hard to get it all into one modern accessory. The main thing is, though, I don't like working with it because invariably whoever installed it twisted it all together to within an inch of it's life! Once untwisted it's IMPOSSIBLE to get all the strands straight enough to terminate properly.

yes, the rubber insulated older stranded cables have mostly all now perished, the later pvc are uaually still as good as new. and you are correct. the cpc was usually greater cross section than now

Had a few instances when I was a "Boy" near a large park where there was a sheltered housing complex wired with old shiney PVC which had attractive something that the Squirells enjoyed much to the delight of my gaffer finding them welded to cables

coming from a youngish spark now, but i was at a house the other day where i was changing a few old sockets to new ones, and i was pretty positive that the ring final was in 4.0mm guess this explains it.
cheers guys!!!
