Removed this from a domestic property this morning, anyone know what this was used for? looks pretty old, perhaps some from the older generation may have installed these.

I've not seen this before, but just looked it up.

Seems to be commonly used for remote control of street lighting by sending a signal of specific frequency over the supply cables, with detection using a tuned relay, sensitive to that frequency.

Interesting, Thankyou for the replies, I nearly left the thing sat there but the old cloth tails were still energised so thought I best remove it, and yes I'll definitely keep hold of it.
