Hi all,

I have just pruchased 2 x Black & Decker Portable 7-litre Digital Air Cooler (BXAC65002GB) for my kids room and i know the length of the wire that comes with them ain't going to be long enough.

I want to cut the end plug of and extend the wire using a flex connector instead of using a extension lead.

As i don't have the appliances yet it's kinda guesswork as to what cable i need to extend it, i just want to get the parts in for when they arrive.

The only info i have is a picture of the item and some info taken from the manual i got online.

Do you think it's a 2 core cable?
What size will i need: 0.75mm2 or 1.0mm2 or 1.25mm2 or 1.5mm2 or none of them.

Any help most welcome

It's 65W. 0.75mm² will be fine. Can't tell whether it needs an earth though. If it does, when wiring the flex connector leave the earth core as long as possible relative to the other two, so that if the flex gets tugged and the cores pull through inside the sheath under the clamp at all, it will be the last to come under tension.

It might well be Class II but that is a classic example of boilerplate text copied from the instructions of a different product without ever having been proof-read or checked for relevance. Had it been, they would have noticed that the first paragraph is more or less repeated, and that this product is not correctly described as a 'tool.' They also ought to know that 'Class 2' is not the same as 'Class II' and should make up their minds as to whether the thing you put a plug into is a socket or an outlet. Would not be surprised if this text started out in an instruction book for a US-market garden power tool.
