Why a delay on my computer start up sound.

When I used to switch on my iMac computer at the mains plug, then the computer switch, the computer start up sound would play immediately but more recently, the start up sound takes several seconds to start.
This is not a problem but I am very curious to know why this happens. Has anyone any idea please? Could it be computer updates causing it?

Depends what you have plugged into it and any cd dvd,it will scan all hard drives USB and so on.

Is it just the sound delayed or is the boot time extended as well?
