Hi,

Hoping someone can help? I purchased a universal cigarette lighter to replace the one in myRenault Megane, as it wouldn’t charge my sat nav. When I removed the old lighter, which wasattached with block connecter, I’m left with 3 wires: Yellow, Blue &Black. Does anyone know how I shouldwire these to the new lighter? I haveattached a photo showing the wires and new lighter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

James

Compare with your existing lighter and see where the wires go.
On your universal the centre contact is positive +12V and the outer contact is earth (normally -12V, but check you are negatively earthed) the light should be connected in parallel with the heater element, use red for positive +12V, black for negative.

If you cannot tell then check with a voltmeter which existing wires become +12V once the ignition is on.

You will need a meter to test original cables, and are looking for +12v, -12v and a switch +12v when lights are turned on.
on new lighter red wire is +12v from lights, black is -12v, otter casing spade connection is -12v, and inner spade connection is +12v
