Hi,

im just wondering what others thoughts are on this.

im fitting some outside lights tomorrow for someone, one either side of their patio door.

im going to drill straight through and then take the cable up the dry lining on the inside to the top near the ceiling, take it across the top and the down into the switch.

the wire on one side of the door will not be in a zone as the wall is greater than 100mm. The other side is ok as falls in line with the switch.

Personally I can't see any problem with it as there isn't really an alternative short of creating a zone some how.

its a brand new house by the way, RCDs etc.

Cover with a 3mm steel plate? Unless I'm missing something in your description this is your only option unless you 'create' a zone with a switch, as suggested by Murdoch?
