However, how much and how durable. My current tape is about a year old, and I don't expect its life expectancy to be longer than the next year :(

Cus I'm a boring old fart with sod to do but search the net, quite a good of kit really
 
Saw this a few weeks ago showed it to someone at work who loves new gadgets he has ordered one, more money than sense imo, not sure when it's turning up but when it does il have a ago and give you a review

18 seconds before I realised that it's the American Tony Cable and not just because of his terrible ability to read the autocue - Dave Austin is a natural at that!
 
I thought it pretty cool at first, though wouldn't be for lying in the tool box, so checked price, £100 basically, thought well it's an option for a laser measure, so looked at the FAQ for the specs, it's 500cm max for the laser measure, 3m for the string and the wheel mode does 10m. Thought the laser and string would have been higher tbh. 5-8M on the string and 25m -50m on the laser, will watch for future versions and see the price.
