Evening all..

Just wondering what height from the floor or ceiling a CU must be or even if there are any regulations...

Installing a 3-phase board in to a flat, but don't want to put it too high but then not too low.

Just looked at the book its page 137 "Because of the sensitivity of circuit breakers RCDs RCBOs fitted to consumer units should be readily accessible.

Chris

In houses where I live (on a new development) they are being mounted at all sorts of heights - Mine is within 6" of the ceiling, my missus' house is in a kitchen cupboard so at shoulder height and when poking around some empty new builds I have seen them mounted at the same level as light switches in the corner of the dining area. Looks terrible but handy for the disabled I guess!

Even better for the kids they can play with the little black switchs and poke their fingers in any little gaps they find then for a grand closing act they can throw a bowl of water at it:rolleyes:

Chris

Agreed but we are assuming that the person who fitted the CU has put the blanks in like he should do but looking at the last 10 CUs Ive been to only 4:eek: had all blanks filled:);)

Chris

They should be low enough for granny to reset in the event of a fault
(kids can now get at them)

They should be high enough so that kids dont do what kids sometimes do
(they may become in accessable to gran mounted here)

They should be in a cupboard out of the way
(Gran knows where they are,the kids dont.)

They should be accessable,so a cupboard with brooms and mops may not be the best position
( At least the kids are safe, because the power is off, because gran cant get at the board )

Guidance eh
At least its clear and well understood to all us installers then

cu should be no lower than 1m, cos kids can't stand on em if any higher, also kids have probs poking pencils into holes...**** mr regs man, iq of a mars bar
